Match report: TCC - ANZACS July 19, 2008

Team TCC comes together to pull off a hard fought victory !!

TCC took on another local team ANZACs. Such an encounter is always challenging and brings out the best of both teams. Thanks to Muki for performing the 12th man duties well and to Uchil for organizing lunch. The game got underway at about 11 after we saw the kids battle it out in the heat.

TCC got started on a high note with both Aravind and Anand scoring quick. The openers put up 30 in no time. ANZACs were on the back foot and wanted a breakthrough desperately. Ketan pulled off a quick reflex catch to get rid of Aravind. Anand and Arekar added another quick 20 runs. Anand tried to hit one too many to the boundary and was out for a quick fire 25. Arekar and Uchil had their job cut out now and were in consolidation mode with the ANZACs having the upper hand. Shibu walked in after Uchil's dismissal, TCC were in a spot of bother at 72/3. Arekar in the meantime settled down and was starting to free his arms. He scored a couple of huge sixes. Shibu was his usual self chipping for singles and twos. Shibu was finding the boundary with ease and was starting to prove to be a danger for ANZACs. However, he departed at 37. At this stage TCC wanted to put up a decent target on the board, the lower order chipped in with useful runs, Vihari remained not out at 10. TCC put up a low but defendable 154.

TCC knew that they had to bowl really well in order to defend 154. ANZACs fancied their chances for notching up a win. Aravind and Arekar started off the bowling for TCC. Aravind kept a tight line, but Arekar was the first to strike. Sarvesh got out cheaply. Lal walked in at number three and couldn't get going really. Prashanth held off a good catch off Aravind's bowling to get rid of Lal for 1. Ketan and Bakul started to get comfortable. Bakul had some good hits to the boundary. TCC was looking for a breakthrough and Vihari pulled off a stunner on the field, Nutty and Aravind did the rest to get Bakul run out for 16. Rakesh came on second change and was hitting the right areas straight away. He was moving the ball and troubling the batsmen at will. Ashutosh couldn't handle the fast one coming in and was adjudged LBW. Rakesh got one more in the same over and was pumped up. Ketan was holding one end but the wickets were falling in regular intervals on the other end. The required run rate was creeping up as well, the job got more difficult. Rakesh ended his spell 3/17 and had one of his better outings. The spinners did the rest for TCC and wrapped up the ANZACs innings 37 runs short of the target.

A team win for TCC at the end of the day !

MoM – Rakesh for his brilliant spell of bowling 7-0-17-3

- Aravind
