    match report - v NCSU April 23, 2005

TCC packed too much punch for NCSU in their 2nd league match. On wet and windy conditions TCC powered their way to a 4 wicket win with plenty of overs to spare. TCC would like to thank the umpires from DCC for officiating in this match.

NCSU won the toss and after much deliberation they decided to take 1st strike. It seemed a strange decision since the ground was wet from overnight showers and the conditions would have aided swing and seam. During the TCC huddle we decided we were going to get them within 100-125.The opening bowlers Aravind and Sundar exploited the conditions to the hilt and made run scoring hard on the batsmen. Sundar got the ball to swing like a banana and accounted for both the openers. Amar and Manoj were introduced 1st change to make further inroads but both had trouble coming to terms with the wet ball. At this point NCSU's captain Vinay was going after anything loose. Aravind brought on spin from both ends in the form of Uchil and Shibu. Shibu was bowling like a dream and almost had Vivek immediately but Sundar could not hold onto the ball at mid-wicket. Shibu did not lose heart and almost immediately had Vivek plumb in front and Uchil accounted for Vinay. NC State was 96/4 at the end of 15, a fighting total but they were losing wickets at regular intervals. Following the break, Vijay and Charan tightened the screws further. Vamsee was still out there but fast losing steam and partners. He got run out in a mix up and NCSU were up against it from here on . Some lusty hitting in the end got them to over 150 and they ended up with 163.The bowlers had delivered and now it was the batsmen's turn to finish the job.

Following a short lunch break, TCC's openers Ravi and Charan started proceedings. It was a rocketing start as both openers were keen on belting anything loose. TCC looked set for a easy win but Amit struck getting Ravi playing uppishly to cover.Charan and Aravind did not last long and TCC were in a spot of bother at 39/3 at end of 6 overs. This brought the two reliable batsmen in the form of Vijay and Shibu and they played extremely well to score a partnership worth 62 invaluable runs that brought up the 100 for TCC. Just when it seemed they would carry it all the way through Shibu was adjudged LBW .Vijay was playing like a dream and just needed support at the other end. Rajesh who came in next sporting a shiny blue helmet belted a boundary and signaled his intentions. He fell trying to do something that's one does not normally associate with him viz. defense and was caught by the keeper. Sundar brandishing his new bat came to assist Vijay and finish things off. But with about 20 runs to win he decided he would hit it in 6's and found mid-off instead .So it was left to Vijay and newcomer Manoj to do the honors .Vijay seeing the parade going at the other end decided he had enough of it and promptly took matters in his hands and finished it off in style hammering a boundary and bringing up his 50 at the same time .TCC coasted to a win in 25 overs and put to rest the ghosts from last years defeat at the hands of the same opponent.

MoM :- Unananimously awarded to Vijay for his allround efforts with bat and ball
