TCC lost to ANZACs by three wickets.
Having emerged winners in a heart-stopping thriller in the previous game TCC were disappointed to see the other side of the coin in a closely contested game.
The start of the game was delayed due to overnight rains that had caused the outfield and the borders of the pitch to be wet.
After winning the toss and electing to bat TCC made an excellent start. Ravi, fresh from his holiday in India, and Aravind laid a
solid foundation with 55 for the first wicket. Following that Samir with this trademark pulls and Aravind continued the good work and took the
score to 89 before Samir fell leg before in the 14th over. Immediately in the next over, Aravind's excellent innings of 44 (36) was cut short as he was
adjudged leg before. This triggered a middle order procession reducing TCC to 101/6 by the 18th over.
Rajesh Virkar played a good hand to steady the ship along with Senthil. Both of them played sensibly and with the occasional boundary kept the
scoreboard ticking along nicely. A double strike in one over got rid of both Senthil and Manoj and TCC were reduced to 136/8 in 24 overs.
Some more sensible batting from Rajesh, Cashif and a lusty six from Riaz took our final score to 166. Slightly less than what TCC aimed
for given the solid foundation but still a defendable total.
ANZACs came out to bat and were shocked to see their captain dismissed by a beauty of the second ball of the innings from Aravind. Kam soon
followed and ANZACs were reduced to 16/2. Following this came the most productive partnership in the game as Krishna and Rahul kept the scoreboard
ticking and took the score to 73/2 in 14 overs. Krishna in particular played some very good cricketing shots. Manoj and Rajesh bowled a
couple of tight overs, which caused Krishna to chance his arm once too often and was caught in the deep. As it happens many a times in cricket
this wicket was soon followed by his partner Rahul holing out in the deep as well. ANZACs were suddenly reeling at 79/4 in 17.
TCC further increased their stranglehold on their game as ANZACs were reduced to 131/7 by the end of the 26th over leaving a tough task of scoring 36 in the last 4
overs with 3 wickets in hand. But Sudeep and Anirudh had other ideas and played calmly taking singles of every ball and converting 1s to 2s by pressuring the
fielders. A 14-run penultimate over which saw a brilliant six over midwicket from Anirudh swung the balance in the favor of ANZACs. They were able to
score the required 7 runs in the last over with 1 ball to spare completing a match winning partnership.
We should use these lessons that we learnt from the last two close games and improve our performances before the play-offs start.
We can take heart from the fact that we fought back into this game twice once while batting after the middle order collapse and the second time while bowling
after the 3rd wicket partnership. Keep the spirits up guys!
